Hello. I'm a hockey fan and also an woman (probably). I love talking about hockey with other hockey people. Specifically, I like talking about the play on the ice and the way particular players and teams go about the business of doing the hockey. However, I've only just recently gotten into women's hockey (thanks YTG) and I don't know enough about the players and the teams to actually talk about the PWHL like that and I want to know.

I know that Kendall Coyne is fast, I know that Kristin O'Neill is a tenacious forechecker, I know that Aerin Frankel is Jusse Saros but...more, and I know that Marie-Philip Poulin is clutch. Beyond that, I don't know anything and I would like to know things.

Can you help me out? What kinds of things should I look for when next I watch a PWHL game? What kind of styles do each of the teams play? How is MPP so clutch when half the time it looks like she skates by falling over?

I spend the hockey games screaming and gasping and pointing at my faves, but I don’t often pay particular attention to the style of play for each player, which is what I think you’re asking about here. I also spend a lot of time watching the goalies over the skaters. Or I just watch the puck because that’s where the action is.

One thing I do like to watch is the special teams, during power plays and penalty kills, watching them set up the diamond in the offensive zone during a pp is sooooo satisfying 👌🏻

MPP is a mystery to me tbh. She has these moments of pure brilliance, and other times she’s kinda all over the place.

Some of my thoughts about players:

Emma Maltais is a ‘shit disturber’ she likes to get in the way & instigates ice crimes

Ann Renee Desbiens likes to go on Adventures more than most goalies, she’s always up to something

Sarah Nurse is great on the breakaway, I’ve loved seeing her succeed in that recently

Recovering herself, the woman offered a small smile. “You must be Miss Bennet.”

“And you must be—” Mary floundered, trying to think which young lady was unaccounted for, until the very obvious answer slapped her square in the face. “You can’t be Miss Darcy.”

“Can’t I be?” Miss Darcy’s smile went from polite to almost indecently large. “I’ve been wanting to introduce myself since you arrived, but I had a bout of some illness and my brother insisted I rest. Even Lizzy won’t let me escape my rooms. I have to sneak away at night.”

“That’s terrible! Diligent work for a limited amount of time can be healing.”

“Do you think so?” Miss Darcy blinked those lovely brown eyes at her. “Most people would say I shouldn’t be down here at all. In any condition.”

“Most people are fools. I think a lady’s mech work should be as valued as her embroidery,” Mary said firmly.

Excerpt: 

“My sister”—Henry gestured vaguely in Louise’s direction—“has solicited my attendance, which is hardly enough reason to tempt me, honestly, but I’m sometimes too indulgent.” He spoke in jest, hoping to see the handsome if solemn face light up in a smile.

It didn’t.

“I, too, come at the behest of my sister,” he said, his tone softening as he looked across the room, then sharpening once again when his gaze returned to Henry. “Though I don’t consider it a chore to indulge her.”

“And yet you stand here alone in the corner,” Henry pointed out. He offered a hand. “Henry Lucas.”

The man lifted his chin and stared down his nose at Henry’s outstretched hand. The pause was long enough that Henry was certain, if their luck were reversed and this stranger was in possession of the pocket watch, he would have told Henry off simply because he could and then completely undone the meeting, avoiding Henry so thoroughly the introduction would never happen. The thought made his heart skip a beat and heat rise in his cheeks.

With some regrets of presenting them Lilly, MC responsed

In a moment all the thoughts in their minds stopped at the world of the little sister

Scream the little one, while running from MC, who just thought that a secret was needed to be maintained. Anyway, she said that she disappeared, so their are just 2 siblings who saw an ancestor.

I love Louimar, so often my drawing is related to Pikmin 2 timeline (I like Pikmin 2 the most).      Well, for someone who feels so strongly about a "laidback"/no pressure/this is a hobby and we should all just be here to have fun mindset - ahem - honestly? It's a LOT. I don't think she'd ever call me out on it on her own, but I'm pretty sure @climatact would attest to this: if Saro is awake, Saro is overthinking something.

     I'm 100% serious when I tell people they probably can't go wrong with interacting with me (chatting or IC stuff). And when I tell people how much I love their writing and enjoy our threads. And yet I somehow still exist in a constant state of "I'm not doing something right", "I'm not sure how I feel about my portrayal", "I think I'm annoying this person and they're just too nice to say it/they don't really want to talk to me", "my replies have gotten too long and I think they're offputting", "I don't have enough medical knowledge as a person to do a lot of Law's stuff justice I'm a terrible imposter", "that mun already writes with another portrayal of my muse, they probably don't want me to send them anything". It's hypocritical and exhausting, but, y'know. Brains are rude.

     (So when I'm telling you these things, y'all, I'm telling you from the POV of an overthinker who has had every self-doubty thought you can possibly have- and is probably having some at any given moment. I wouldn't say these things are okay if I DID NOT mean it.)

What’s a way someone could ease the anxiety of unfamiliar conversation?

     If you're in that awkward "we haven't talked at all" or "we've talked a little but I don't feel like we've really found our footing yet even though I think we will and it will be awesome?" place, and it will help at all, I encourage you -if it helps- to skip right over the "i hope this is okay"/"sorry to bother you" and roll up into my DMs like we've been BFFs for a decade. If that's not your speed, that's okay too! I'm shy in real life, but I'm not shy on here, so if you're struggling, and just want to say "hello I'm shy" I will do my very best to be the extrovert/bridge that gap for you! I also LOVE a conversation that starts with a crazy what if or "hear me out" or "how would you feel about"/"do you think Law would ever"... Scream at me about the frustrations about self-doubty thoughts like the ones I talked about! I will be able to relate and it'll be good conversation fodder.

     Once again, I want to be friends & writing partners with all of my writing partners. If there's anything I can do to make that easier or more comfortable for YOU, let me know!
